About Us
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is an integral part of the local health system, dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of nearly half a million residents in London and Middlesex County. We deliver important programs and services that focus on prevention, improving health outcomes, and address pressing health needs of our community.
We are here to watch for, identify, and address public health issues that affect you, your family, and your neighbours. Our staff operate immunization clinics, conduct inspections, perform contact tracing for infectious diseases, and work with schools and families to provide support. From promoting healthy behaviours, eating, and environments to ensuring food safety, safe water, and oral health, we focus on fostering healthy growth and development, preventing injuries, addressing substance use, supporting mental well-being, and improving access to healthcare. We also tackle social conditions, prevent violence, and advocate for safer, more equitable communities.
MLHU conducts community-based research and collaborates with politicians and decision-makers to develop bylaws and guidelines that foster healthier communities. At every level, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is here to help you live your healthiest life.
We are committed to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and communities.
We acknowledge our obligation to improve the health and wellness outcomes of Indigenous people in our region, and are committed to taking action to bring about change. We do this by building staff capacity to deliver culturally safe services, cultivating equitable and productive relationships with Indigenous partners, addressing racially-based health inequities by disrupting colonial practices within and outside our organization, and by building an organizational culture of humility and accountability through ongoing learning, thoughtful policy, and practice that is informed by multiple evidence sources. We continue to work towards full implementation of Taking Action for Reconciliation: An Organizational Plan for the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
