With travel occurring or on the horizon for many in the region, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is recommending that individuals check their vaccination status before traveling and ensure that they are up-to-date.
A recent announcement from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health this week identified an increase in measles cases worldwide. The highest risk of measles transmission is among unvaccinated individuals who travel and return from countries where measles is circulating. Vaccination continues to be highly effective in preventing the spread of the measles virus.
To verify and access your vaccination records via Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON), visit https://mlhu.icon.ehealthontario.ca/#!/welcome. Vaccination status and records can also be accessed by contacting your healthcare provider. Consult with your healthcare provider to confirm and receive any needed vaccinations, whatever your destination. Regardless of the illness or risk, vaccination remains the greatest defense.
If you have recently travelled and present with the following symptoms, with or without a rash, contact your healthcare provider:
- Fever
- Runny nose
- Cough
- Drowsiness
- Irritability
- Conjunctivitis
