The Sexual Health Promotion Team at the Health Unit has been working with a group of youth to help address gaps in services specifically for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) individuals.

The engagement group has taken on the title of ‘Youth Encouraging Acceptance’ (YEA). Two short videos titled, “Add Your Colour”, have been created for the purpose of raising awareness of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and the ongoing problem of bullying in the LGBTQ community.

By calling attention to abusive name-calling and demonstrating how each statement can shatter a person piece by piece, the videos are very impactful. The videos highlight that showing support and caring can help individuals dealing with discrimination.

Please join YEA, and the Sexual Health Promotion Team for the official launch of the videos on May 17, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., at the Labatt Lounge (upper level of the Covent Garden Market). The “Add Your Colour” evening will feature the videos, musical performances by youth community members, and a health fair featuring LGBTQ-positive organizations and resources.
