A concerted community effort, drawing on the experience and expertise of many organizations and individuals across the region has resulted in the creation of the Middlesex-London Community Drug & Alcohol Strategy – A Foundation For Action. This strategy report, which contains 23 recommendations and several associated actions, aims to prevent and address local substance-related harms. The report will be released on Tuesday, October 16th.
The development of the Community Drug and Alcohol Strategy (CDAS) has been led by a steering committee that includes representatives from the Middlesex-London Health Unit, Regional HIV / AIDS Connection, the City of London, the County of Middlesex, the London Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police, Addiction Services of Thames Valley, the Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre, London Cares Homeless Response Services, the London InterCommunity Health Centre, Mission Services of London, the London Area Network of Substance Users, Downtown London, the London Arts Council, the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Old East Village Business Improvement Area, Goodwill Industries, the Salvation Army Centre of Hope and other community members.
Work on creating the CDAS began in the spring of 2016 using the internationally-recognized “Four Pillars” approach, which focuses on prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement. Copies of Middlesex-London Community Drug & Alcohol Strategy – A Foundation For Action will be available at the event.
