Adventures in Sex City Heroes Bring Safe Sex Messages to Local Bars Tonight

Posted by on

London, ON – Two of the main characters from the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s popular online game, Adventures in Sex City, are stepping off the screen to raise awareness about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and safer sex. Captain Condom and Wonder Vag took their messages to bars and nightclubs in downtown London last weekend and will be out again Friday night. The costumed super heroes are members of The Sex Squad, part of the Health Unit’s youth-oriented sexual health question and answer game. As part of their on-going mission to protect the citizens of London and Middlesex County from STIs, the duo will be handing out free condoms and sexual health information at several popular night spots in downtown London.

“Adventures in Sex City has proven to be a great resource for teaching younger audiences about sexual health and how to prevent sexually transmitted infections. The game continues to be very popular among teens as well as University and College students across the region and beyond,” says Shaya Dhinsa, Manager of Sexual Health Promotion with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “Having characters that a lot of people are familiar with show up at a bar on the weekend is a great way to break the ice, have the conversation, and give people important information about how to stay sexually healthy.”

The original Adventures in Sex City was launched in February of 2010 and immediately garnered local, provincial, national and international media attention. A sequel, Adventures in Sex City II, was launched earlier this year. Similar in style, Adventures in Sex City II focuses on alcohol and substance misuse and their potential negative impact on sexual health decisions.

Both versions of Adventures in Sex City can be played online at http://www.getitonlondon.com. The website also provides information and resources about sexual health.

The Health Unit operates The Clinic, its sexually transmitted infection and family planning clinic, at its downtown London office located at 50 King Street and also at its Strathroy office, located in the Kenwick Mall. The Clinic offers a wide range of services that include: birth control, pregnancy testing, emergency contraceptives, testing and treatment of STIs, and provides free condoms.
