Media Advisory: National Healthy Schools Conference Being Held in London This Week

The Ontario Healthy Schools Coalition is hosting Coming Together: Supporting the Whole Child, the 2014 National Healthy Schools Conference on Wednesday, April 9th and Thursday, April 10th at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre in downtown London. The Conference features leading speakers on current topics that play a key part in the physical, mental and emotional health of our schools and school communities, as well as more than 40 breakout sessions.

Health Unit Salutes Dr. Bryna Warshawsky for Years of Service to Middlesex-London

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is saluting its long-serving Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Bryna Warshawsky, as she departs the agency at the end of this week to assume a new role with Public Health Ontario. Warshawsky, who joined the Health Unit in 1994, will become a Public Health Physician at the provincial public health agency. In addition to her role as Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Warshawsky is also the Health Unit’s Director of Oral Health, Communicable Disease and Sexual Health Services.


[Invitation] Ages and Stages Questionnaire Training Workshop

Ages and Stages (ASQ) and Ages and Stages- Social Emotional (ASQ-SE) are validated parent administered screening tools that can be completed with the assistance of a professional. These tools are increasingly being used by Public Health Units, Childcare Centres, Health Care Providers, and Community Agencies. Together, these tools provide a comprehensive developmental screen of the child.

London, ON – The Middlesex-London Health Unit is advising that a second individual, possibly infected with measles, may have exposed community members to the virus at the times and locations listed below. The Health Unit is advising these people, and the broader community, to be aware of the signs and symptoms of measles, as this list may not include all possible exposures.

Region’s Sixth Cold Weather Alert Lifted as Temperatures Climb Above -15C

London, ON – The Cold Weather Alert issued by the Medical Officer of Health on Wednesday, March 12th has now been terminated. Current outdoor temperatures and those forecast by Environment Canada for the next few days are above the -15C threshold used by the Health Unit to issue a Cold Weather Alert.


Weather Turnaround Leads to Region’s Sixth Cold Weather Alert of the Year

London, ON – After what seemed like the beginning of the end for the winter of 2014, cold temperatures are about to return to the region. With an Environment Canada forecast calling for temperatures to drop to -18C this evening, the Medical Officer of Health has issued the year’s sixth Cold Weather Alert. A forecast calling for daytime low temperatures colder than -15C is one of the Health Unit’s criteria for issuing Cold Weather Alerts. The alert comes into effect later today and will continue through tomorrow afternoon.
