COVID-19 Case at Local Restaurant Prompts MLHU to Reach Out to Patrons

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has been notified of a new COVID-19 case in an individual who had spent two hours at the El Furniture Warehouse restaurant between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. on Monday, September 7th.

The risk that other restaurant patrons were exposed to the novel coronavirus has been assessed as low, however the Health Unit is advising that anyone who was at El Furniture Warehouse within the time frame monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19. The Health Unit advises that anyone who develops symptoms seek testing at an Assessment Centre.

“We are on the verge of a gathering storm of conditions that could lead to increased transmission of COVID-19. Now is not the time to let our guard down,” says Dr. Chris Mackie, Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit.

“We’ve seen post-secondary students return to our community and the temptation to have more social gatherings, or to move those gatherings indoors as temperatures cool, will be great. The importance of following public health guidance right now can’t be underestimated” says Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit.

The Health Unit recommends the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections:

  • Ensure your social circle includes a maximum of 10 people and don’t interact directly with those outside your social circle.
  • Maintain physical distancing of at least two metres from other people.
  • Wear a mask while in enclosed public places, or where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Visit an Assessment Centre to get tested if you are concerned you have COVID-19 or have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19.
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 15-20 seconds or use a waterless hand sanitizer with at least 70 percent alcohol content.
  • Cover coughs and/or sneezes with your sleeve or cough into your elbow.
  • Clean high-touch areas, such as doorknobs in public spaces, frequently.
  • Download the COVID Alert mobile app to be notified if you may have been exposed to COVID-19, and to let others know if you test positive for the virus.
