The Boil Water Advisory issued for the Village of Glencoe on Monday, July 30th has been lifted. Laboratory tests conducted on samples taken from the Glencoe Water Distribution System on Monday and again on Tuesday, July 31st, have been completed and indicate that the water is safe to drink.
Complete bacteriological testing of a set of water samples takes 48 hours. Negative results on two consecutive sets of samples from the distribution system, taken 24 hours apart, are required to confirm that water is safe to drink. The laboratory testing of the samples is now complete and the results show that the water is safe for human consumption.
The Boil Water Advisory was issued due to a water main break on the evening of Sunday, July 29th, which led to a drop in pressure in the water system. The concern was that the pressure may not have been sufficient to prevent the backflow of untreated water from entering the system and also that the water main break itself could have allowed contaminants to enter the water supply.
With the lifting of the Boil Water Advisory, the Health Unit recommends that residents run cold water through their faucets for one minute before drinking it and also flushing garden hoses by running cold water through them for one minute. In addition, hot water heaters should be drained and refilled, water softeners should be run through a regeneration cycle, and pool filters should be backwashed before changing the filter media.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit and the Township of Southwest Middlesex would like to thank residents for their cooperation and understanding during this temporary situation.
