Health Unit to Hold First Dose COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic for Downtown Residents and Those Facing Barriers

The Middlesex-London Health Unit will be making it easier to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for those who are unhoused, under-housed or who aren’t able to get to mass vaccination clinics.

After the MLHU held an initial walk-in vaccination clinic at Citi Plaza on May 14th, where 100 people who live in shelters and other congregate settings received their first dose of vaccine, it was clear that there was still a need to reach those who lived downtown.

A limited number of doses will be available at a COVID-19 walk-in vaccination clinic, which will be held at the Health Unit’s Citi Plaza offices on Thursday, June 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Health Unit’s goal is to provide first doses to those who haven’t been able to get vaccinated due to significant barriers, including limited transportation options.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, what you’re struggling with or what you earn, COVID-19 looks for opportunities to spread. There are a number of factors that put some downtown residents at higher risk, and we want to help remove barriers like transportation, so that as many people as possible can get vaccinated,” says Stephen Turner, Director of Environmental Health and Infectious Diseases with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “Our goal has been, and remains, to get vaccine in arms as quickly and as efficiently as we can. The more people who get a dose of vaccine, the better the protection from this virus for all of us.”

Doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be provided starting at 10:00 on Thursday morning. No appointments are necessary, with preference being provided towards those who are not able to attend one of the four mass vaccination clinics in London and Middlesex County. Please note that due to the drop-in nature of the clinic, doses of the vaccine may become more limited towards the end of the day, and may all be delivered before 4:00 p.m.
