The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Delilah’s, located at 209 John Street in London, after 15 patrons who attended the restaurant have tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Unit was notified of three initial cases associated with the establishment on August 13th and received reports of 12 additional cases on August 14th. Health Unit case investigators have also determined that several of these cases attended a gathering together at a private residence during the time they also attended the restaurant while infectious.
The Health Unit advises staff and patrons who were at the restaurant between August 5th and 7th to monitor themselves for the development of symptoms. Individuals with symptoms should visit a COVID-19 Assessment Centre in London.
“We know that it raises concerns when the Health Unit declares a COVID-19 outbreak, especially at a restaurant, but we are starting to see cases and outbreaks increase in our region, including cases in individuals who are vaccinated,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “Even though patios and restaurants are open and indoor dining is permitted, we must not let our guard down. Wear a mask, maintain physical distancing, gather outdoors as much as possible and if you’re spending any time indoors, make sure everyone you’re hanging out with is fully vaccinated.”
The Health Unit strongly recommends that you:
- Get vaccinated, whether you have yet to receive your first dose or need to complete your second.
- Gather outdoors as much as possible; if gathering indoors, ensure everyone is fully vaccinated.
- Wear a mask, especially indoors, where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
The Health Unit also recommends the following to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 15-20 seconds or use a waterless hand sanitizer with at least 70 percent alcohol content.
- Cover coughs and/or sneezes with your sleeve or cough into your elbow.
- Clean high-touch areas, such as doorknobs in public spaces, frequently.
- Visit covidtestinglm.ca for how to get tested at a London Assessment Centre.
