Following the Province’s announcement Friday afternoon about an accelerated rollout plan for second dose COVID-19 vaccine appointments, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will begin to offer those over the age of 80 the opportunity to re-book their second dose appointments starting Monday, June 7th, or sooner. The Health Unit will provide an update at its regularly scheduled virtual media briefing on Thursday, June 3rd.
The Province indicated those 80 years of age and older could begin re-scheduling their second dose appointments as early as this morning, given that some health units have more vaccine supply than needed for those seeking first doses in their areas. That is not the case in Middlesex and London, where most vaccine appointments continue to be first doses.
Consistent with Provincial direction and in order to maximize the number of individuals who can benefit from a first dose of vaccine as soon as possible, second dose vaccination appointments for most recipients will continue to be scheduled at the longer interval.
At this time, only those currently listed in the Health Unit’s second-dose schedule will be eligible to book an accelerated second dose appointment. Also, at this time, second dose appointments can only be made by calling 226-289-3560 (8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday to Sunday).
