The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is pleased to announce that Dr. Karalyn Dueck has been hired as the region’s temporary Acting Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH). Dr. Dueck’s appointment will begin on Monday September 12th for an initial period of six months.
After completing medical school at McMaster University, Dr. Dueck trained as a physician in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, including Family Medicine, at the University of Toronto. Prior to receiving her medical degree, Dr. Dueck completed her undergraduate studies at Western University; while completing her Master of Public Health from the University of Waterloo, she also worked as a member of the MLHU staff.
“We are thrilled Dr. Dueck is returning to the Health Unit and joining our team as the temporary Acting AMOH. She brings exceptional knowledge of our community and public health to the role and we are excited for her to get started,” says Dr. Alex Summers, Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “The AMOH position is essential to our organization and Dr. Dueck’s expertise and leadership will pay significant dividends over the months ahead.”
The AMOH plays a critical role in enabling the Health Unit to meet its mandate of protecting and promoting the health of London and Middlesex County residents. The medical expertise Dr. Dueck will provide in the areas of medical consultation, strategic public health leadership, communicable disease, and environmental health activities will be an asset to the MLHU.
The position of Associate Medical Officer of Health with the MLHU has been vacant since Dr. Alex Summers was appointed to the role of Medical Officer of Health in March 2022.
