Module 1: Introduction to Trans Cultural Competence
Open to all health and social service professionals
October 20, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the County Room at Middlesex-London Health Unit (50 King Street)
- Language, terminology, and definitions
- Overview of the general health care needs of trans clients
- Practical tips for recognizing and addressing barriers to care
- Supports for next steps, making changes within your agency and practice
Module 2: Providing Trans Related Clinical Care
Open to medical doctors, nurse practitioners and registered nurses
October 27, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Classroom LLB at the Middlesex-London Health Unit (50 King Street)
- Providing holistic community-based primary care to trans clients
- Assessment, monitoring, and follow-up for hormone therapy
- Familiarizing yourself with other available community referrals
- Building a locally-relevant, integrated health system for trans clients
Module 3: Pre and Post-Operative Care, and Serving More Complex Clients
Open to MDs, NPs, & RNs
October 28, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., room TBD at the Middlesex-London Health Unit (50 King Street)
- The process for obtaining OHIP covered surgery
- Pre and Post-Operative care and your role as a primary health provider
- Working with more complex clients with medical contraindications, mental health, or substance use
- Working with youth and elderly clients
Module 4: Providing Counselling and Support to Clients who are Transitioning
Open to mental health counselors, social workers and support group leaders
October 31, 9 to 4pm in Classroom LLA at Middlesex-London Health Unit (50 King Street)
- New and emerging standards of care in counselling trans clients
- How to provide trans-positive counselling to individuals, couples, and families.
- Practical tools for assisting trans clients with documents, forms, and navigating systems barriers
- Designing and facilitating a support group for trans clients
*Modules 1, 2, and 3 have been reviewed by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and are awaiting final accreditation
by the College’s Ontario Chapter.
**Module 4 is not accredited by the CFPC.
