[Presentation] Your Microbiome with Dr. Emma Allen-Vercoe

Posted by on

In honour of National Breastfeeding Week (October 1 - 7), Dr. Emma Allen-Vercoe will be presenting, Your Microbiome.

Breastfeeding Foundation of Life

About the Presentation

Your microbiome – the trillions of microbes that live on you and in you – are vital for your health. Yet we have only just begun to appreciate this, and to understand how the microbiome develops and interacts with our human selves. The microbiome that lives in the gut is especially important to health for a multitude of reasons, and this community of microbes has far-reaching effects that go beyond the gut itself. Yet, modern living and exposure to commonly used medications such as antibiotics are now recognized to erode the microbiome with potential detriments to health. In this talk, Dr. Allen-Vercoe will present an overview of the gut microbiome, it’s development from birth and beyond, its importance to health, and threats to its proper functioning. Finally, Dr. Allen-Vercoe will consider practices that might support our microbial partners.
