As it continues to administer third and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine as quickly as possible, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reminding the community that the best vaccine to fight the pandemic virus is the one offered at your appointment. Starting today, and due to the limited supply of the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty® vaccine in Ontario, the MLHU will be providing the Moderna Spikevax™ to clients over the age of 30. The Health Unit’s supply of adult Pfizer vaccine is being prioritized for those between the ages of 12 and 29, in accordance with National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommendations that Pfizer is the preferred vaccine for this age group.
Record Number of New Daily Cases Adds to Challenges in Local COVID-19 Response
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting the highest daily increase in new local COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began 21 months ago. When the local online COVID-19 dashboard is updated later today, the numbers will show there were 228 new cases reported to the Health Unit yesterday, setting a new benchmark in the local effort to respond to the pandemic. The data is clear evidence that COVID-19 is circulating very quickly and widely in the community.
GO-VAXX Bus Mobile Vaccine Clinic Returns to Pond Mills on Thursday
Just in time for the holidays and in order to increase opportunities to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and support communities that cannot access mass vaccination clinics, the Province of Ontario’s GO-VAXX bus mobile clinic will return to London’s Pond Mills neighbourhood on Thursday, December 23rd.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit was advised shortly before 2:00 p.m. this afternoon that the Province of Ontario’s Go Vaxx bus will not be making a return trip to London this Thursday, December 23rd, as previously announced this morning.
Health Unit to Increase COVID-19 Vaccination Capacity in The New Year
As London and Middlesex County residents 50 years of age and older begin booking their booster dose appointments, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is announcing it will add COVID-19 vaccination clinic capacity early in the new year. The added clinic capacity will be crucial as the Health Unit prepares for the expanded booster and third dose vaccination eligibility that comes into effect in early 2022. The Province announced last Friday that all Ontarians over the age of 18 will be eligible to receive a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine starting January 4th.
Letter of Recommendation
Cases of COVID-19 are rising across the Province and across the communities served by Huron Perth Public Health, Middlesex-London Health Unit, and Southwestern Public Health. This rise in cases coincides with the recent identification of the Omicron variant of concern in the region, as well as the upcoming holiday season and the anticipated high number of private social gatherings.

Whole Genome Sequencing of COVID-19 Sample Confirms Presence of Omicron Variant in London
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) was notified this afternoon of the whole genome sequencing (WGS) results of a sample from an individual who is part of the large cluster of COVID-19 cases announced yesterday. The sequencing was completed at the Ontario Public Health Laboratory and confirms that the newly identified Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus is present in London and Middlesex County.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is investigating a cluster of COVID-19 cases and says there is the strong probability that the Omicron variant of the virus is involved. The Health Unit is making the statement after being advised last evening of two COVID-19 cases who screened positive for S gene target failure (SGTF) which is a marker for the Omicron variant. These two individuals are amongst a cluster of cases linked to travellers who arrived in London from Nigeria in late November.
