The Middlesex-London Health Unit is issuing another Cold Weather Alert for the region as temperatures and windchill values drop below the Health Unit's thresholds. Environment Canada's forecast currently calls for a low temperature of -17C overnight, accompanied by windchill values of -24 tonight and tomorrow morning. The Cold Weather Alert will come into effect this evening and remain in place until midday tomorrow, when temperatures are expected to rise to -10C and the windchill to ease to -13.
Chilly Weekend Forecast Extends Cold Weather Alert
Bitter cold temperatures and gusting winds are expected to continue in the London and Middlesex region over the weekend. Although the current Environment Canada forecast calls for conditions that don’t meet the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold all through the weekend, temperatures and windchill values for tonight and Sunday night warrant extending the current Alert.
No Appointments Needed at Earl Nichols COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinic Starting Today
In an effort to continue to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) will no longer require appointments at its Earl Nichols mass vaccination clinic site. The addition of more walk-in options is intended to make it easier for anyone who has yet to receive a first, second or booster dose of vaccine to get started towards being fully protected against COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.
Windy Conditions and Bitter Windchill Values Expected for Today and Overnight Lead to Cold Weather…
London, ON – The Middlesex-London Health Unit is issuing its second Cold Weather Alert in less than a week, as winter weather and strong winds drive windchill values to near -20 today and -24 overnight, before temperatures plunge to an expected low of -18C into Friday morning. This Cold Weather Alert will remain in effect until midday tomorrow, when winds are expected to die down and the daytime high reaches -12C.

Board of Health Announces Hiring of Permanent Health Unit CEO
The Middlesex-London Board of Health is pleased to announce that Emily Williams has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU), effective today. Ms. Williams joined the Health Unit in November 2020 as the Director of the MLHU’s Healthy Organization Division, with leadership responsibility over human resources, finance, information technology and other key functions. She has also served the Health Unit in a critical role as Logistics Lead for the COVID-19 vaccine program.
GO-VAXX Bus Mobile Vaccine Clinic to Visit East London on Sunday
The Province of Ontario’s GO-VAXX bus mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic will return to London on Sunday, January 16th, making a stop at the new East Lions Community Centre. Since the fall of 2021, the bus has travelled to many Ontario communities, increasing opportunities for local residents to get their COVID-19 vaccine and supporting residents who haven’t been able to access mass vaccination clinics. The GO-VAXX bus has made two previous visits to London’s Pond Mills neighbourhood.

With bitterly cold weather expected to sweep over the region tonight, causing temperatures to drop to a low of -17C and a windchill value of -26, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is issuing a Cold Weather Alert that will remain in effect until Sunday morning.
Vaccination Campaign Tops 1,000,000 Doses in London and Middlesex County
London and Middlesex County’s 1,000,000th dose of COVID-19 vaccine was administered yesterday. The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) announced the milestone one year and 20 days after the vaccination effort kicked off at the Western Fair District Agriplex on December 23, 2020. Since then, an average of 2,597 doses of vaccine have been administered each day at settings ranging from mass vaccination clinics, hospitals, primary care practices and pharmacies, to long-term care and retirement homes, mobile and pop-up clinics, congregate living settings, workplaces and First Nations communities.
