Health Unit Announces Tentative Agreement

London, ON – The Middlesex-London Health Unit is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA), which represents more than 150 local Public Health Nurses, avoiding a potential labour disruption.


"We're Here for You" New Campaign Highlights Range of Services at MLHU

Just what does public health do and how does it affect our community? With its new We’re HERE for YOU campaign, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is taking an eye-catching step towards highlighting several of the programs and services it provides to local residents. Developed by MLHU staff and focus tested by London’s Insights research firm, the campaign combines clear messages with a humourous index finger character to show that the Health Unit does more than the average person might think.

Safety Coalition Brings Booster Seat Message to Stronach Arena Saturday

More than 70 percent of children who should be seated in a booster seat when riding in a car, minivan or pickup truck aren’t, exposing them to potential injuries. That statistic, along with concerns about incorrect booster seat use, has prompted the Child Safety Coalition of Middlesex-London to tell parents and caregivers that proper booster seat use is critical to the safety of their children.

Fanshawe and Western to Attempt Setting STI Testing World Record

London, ON - Getting tested for a sexually transmitted infection, or STI, can sometimes feel embarrassing or can make you feel like you are being judged. The process for testing can be as simple as peeing in a cup. Over the next week, students at Fanshawe College and Western University will be challenged to set a new world record for the highest number of people screened for STIs within a 24-hour period. The current world record of 767 STI tests in one day, set on Valentine’s Day in 2013, is held by the town of Basingstoke, England. This past April, students at the University of Calgary attempted to break that record, but were unable to set a new mark when only 501 people were tested.


International Walk to School Day Calls on Families to Walk or Wheel for Health

Tomorrow is International Walk to School Day, iWalk 2014 and the Middlesex-London Health Unit is joining its partners in encouraging families across the region to leave the car or minivan at home and use active transportation to get to school. Coming near the start of the in motion™ Physical Activity Community Challenge currently underway in London and Middlesex County, iWalk 2014 is a great way for youth and families to log activity minutes. Walking, cycling, skateboarding, scootering, rollerblading, even strolling to the bus stop can help our community to become Canada’s healthiest.

World Breastfeeding Week 2014: Make Breastfeeding Work for Your Life

Each year Canada celebrates World Breastfeeding Week from October 1st to 7th. The goal of the week is to raise awareness about how important breastfeeding is for the nutrition, immunologic protection, growth, and development of young children. This year, World Breastfeeding Week aims to show how breastfeeding can fit easily into a healthy lifestyle.


Month-Long in motion™ Challenge Gets Underway Today

Building regular physical activity into every day is the first step on the path to a healthier life, sometimes all you need is the motivation to get going. That’s the goal of the second annual in motion™ Physical Activity Community Challenge which gets underway today. After a successful inaugural Challenge in 2013, during which London residents spent more than 2 million minutes being active, this year’s edition is being expanded to include municipalities across Middlesex County. By answering the call to add 15 minutes of physical activity to each day in October, in motion™ organizers hope local residents taking up the Challenge will make the region “Canada’s Healthiest Community”.
