Stay Safe this Civic Holiday Weekend

If you're spending quality time together this Civic Holiday Weekend, plan to spend that time outdoors! Even though gathering limits have increased, it is still not the time to gather indoors, even if you are fully vaccinated. Continue to keep physically distant from others (two metres) and follow public health guidance.

Abundance of Moderna Ready to be Delivered at COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reaching out to residents who have yet to receive a first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine and asking that they consider choosing the Moderna vaccine. Since July 1st, the Health Unit has administered more than 81,000 doses of Moderna and received 24,256 doses of the vaccine in the same time frame. Because the number of vaccinations has declined over the last two weeks, the Health Unit and its partners currently have an excess of 21,300 doses of thawed Moderna vaccine in fridges that needs to be used by August 12th. This vaccine is above and beyond the doses already allocated to those with appointments to receive a second dose of Moderna. Vaccine that is removed from freezers and thawed must be used within 30 days.

Heat Alert in Effect for Today

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reminding everyone who will be out enjoying the summer weather to take the necessary steps to reduce the risk of heat-related illness. With the current Environment Canada forecast calling for hot temperatures and high humidity, the Health Unit is issuing a one-day Heat Alert. The expected high of 31º Celsius today and a humidex reading expected to reach 35, meet the MLHU’s criteria for issuing the Alert. The Alert will only be in effect for today as overnight temperatures are expected to fall to 17º Celsius and showers are expected for Tuesday.

New Hours and Changes in Store for Mass Vaccination Clinics Starting in August

With more than 610,784 does of COVID-19 vaccine delivered since December 23rd, 2020 and the opening of mass vaccination clinics to walk-in traffic for first and second doses this week, changes are in store for the local vaccination effort. As of last Saturday, more than 79 percent of all those over the age of 12 in London and Middlesex County had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine; 56.6 percent had received two doses and are considered fully vaccinated.

Health Unit to Lift Last Remaining Section 22 Class Order Ahead of Province's Move to Step Three

After being in place since October 24th, 2020, the last remaining Section 22 Class Order put in place for all indoor sports and recreational fitness activities by the Middlesex-London Health Unit will be lifted today. The Order covered all gyms, health clubs, community centres, multi-purpose facilities, arenas, exercise studios, yoga studios, dance studios and other fitness facilities.

No Appointments Needed for First Doses at COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinics Starting Tomorrow

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is stepping up its effort to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated this summer, by reducing potential barriers even further. Starting Wednesday, July 14th, it will no longer be necessary to book appointments to receive a first dose of vaccine at one of the four mass vaccination clinics in London or Middlesex County. The addition of more walk-in options for those who have yet to receive their initial dose of COVID-19 vaccine is intended to make it easier for those individuals to get started on a two-dose summer and be protected against COVID-19.

Vaccine Interchangeability Remains Key to Ending Pandemic

With comments from the World Health Organization (WHO) being taken out of context, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is reiterating the importance of seeking the first mRNA vaccine available for any first or second doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

More Opportunities to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine as Pace Picks Up in Race Towards Two-Dose Summer

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is calling on London and Middlesex County residents to join the effort to ensure the community can have a two-dose summer and be fully vaccinated by the time classes are back in session in September. In order to achieve the goal, the Health Unit has scheduled a series of Walk-in Pop-Up COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics over the next five weeks.

Health Unit Extends Heat Alert Into Tuesday

Yesterday’s hot temperatures and Environment Canada’s forecast met the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for issuing a two-day Heat Alert for Sunday and Monday. Now, with an updated forecast that calls for temperatures to reach a high of 31º Celsius, a humidex of 39 and a very high UV index, the Health Unit is extending the current heat alert into Tuesday. The Alert will remain in effect until tomorrow night when rain and thunderstorms will cause temperatures to drop below the Health Unit’s threshold.

MLHU Celebrates the Administration of More Than 500,000 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses, as Medical Officer…

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) announced today that over 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the region since the first dose was given, just over six months ago. The total includes both first and second doses delivered to individuals at either mass vaccination clinics, pharmacies, primary care offices or pop-up community clinics. Over 100,000 of these doses were administered since June 21, when the region’s Vaccine Olympics first began. New vaccine coverage data by age groups will be released tomorrow.
