With the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s largest ever vaccine shipment expected to arrive within days, and the addition of over 40,000 appointments to its mass vaccination clinics and another 2,000 through primary care, more people can now book second doses sooner. The Health Unit announced today that those who received a first dose of vaccine on or before May 30th, may now rebook their second dose vaccination appointment at a shorter interval, provided at least 28 days have passed since their first dose.

Delay in Pfizer Delivery Means More People Will Be Getting Moderna As Their Second Dose
In order to meet the challenges associated with a delayed delivery of Pfizer mRNA vaccine to the region next week, three mass vaccination clinics in the Middlesex-London region will only be providing the Moderna mRNA vaccine to adults this coming week. Starting Monday, June 21, Western Fair Agriplex, North London Optimist Community Centre and the Caradoc Community Centre in Mount Brydges will be offering only the Moderna mRNA vaccine to those over the age of 18 who attend for a first or second dose appointment. A limited supply of Pfizer will be available at each clinic exclusively and only for youth aged 12 to 17 years old.
Email Address, Phone Number Will Make Cancelling Unneeded Appointments Easier
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is making it easier to cancel second dose COVID-19 vaccination appointments for those who no longer need them. With shortened intervals between vaccine doses, increased supply, and local pharmacies offering a choice of mRNA or viral vector vaccines, a growing number of people no longer need second dose vaccination appointments originally booked for them when they received their first dose.

Health Unit to Offer COVID-19 Vaccination Through School-Based Pop-Up Clinics Starting Next Week
To make it easier for youth and their families who haven’t been able to receive a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine yet, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will host Pop-Up Community Clinics in select London and Middlesex County schools starting next week. The clinics will begin Monday, June 21st and have been developed to provide a first dose of vaccine to people who haven’t been able to attend one of the mass vaccination clinics in the region, whether due to transportation challenges or other barriers.

In order to maximize protection against the emerging Delta variant of COVID-19, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is accelerating second doses for anyone who received a vaccine on or before May 9th. In addition, the Health Unit is clarifying the rebooking intervals for those who are eligible to schedule new second dose appointments. A press release issued June 15th incorrectly implied a minimum eight-week interval for all clients. The eight-week minimum is only for those who received AstraZeneca for their first dose. For those who received Pfizer or Moderna for their first dose and are eligible to re-book a second-dose appointment, the minimum rebooking interval is 28 days after receiving their first dose.
MLHU Extending Shorter Second Dose Interval Option to Those Who Got Their First Dose On or Before…
With 17,000 doses of Moderna vaccine expected to arrive early next week, and a similar amount the following week, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is extending second dose appointment re-booking to anyone who got their first dose on or before May 9th. The added deliveries of Moderna vaccine are above and beyond the regular deliveries of Pfizer vaccine the Health Unit receives, allowing shorter second dose intervals for a much larger group starting tomorrow, Wednesday, June 16th at 8:00 a.m.
Health Unit Issues Urgent Call for More Staff to Support Vaccination Effort
With more vaccine expected to arrive, additional first and second dose vaccination appointments on the way, and plans for community-based clinics, there is a need for qualified people to support the expansion of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. The Middlesex-London Health Unit has issued an immediate call for Clinical Supervisors and Managers, as well as vaccinators and administrative staff to expand the local vaccination effort at mass vaccination clinics and community-based mobile clinic sites.
