London COVID-19 Assessment Centres to Have Regular Hours on Labour Day

The COVID-19 Assessment Centres located at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre (656 Elizabeth Street in London) and Oakridge Arena (825 Valetta Street in London), will be open for Labour Day. The Carling Heights Assessment Centre will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on holiday Monday, while the Assessment Centre at Oakridge Arena will be open on from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition, each site will follow their regular schedules for the holiday weekend, with the Carling Heights site open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, while the Oakridge site will be closed, as usual.


Health Unit to Host its Second Virtual Town Hall on Monday, August 31st

The Middlesex-London Health Unit will hold its second Virtual Town Hall on Monday, August 31st, to answer questions and provide information about COVID-19 in London and Middlesex. The online meeting will include a brief presentation from the Health Unit’s Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Alex Summers, followed by questions from people in the community.

Hot and Humid Weather Prompts Health Unit to Issue Two-Day Heat Warning

The current Environment Canada forecast calls for a daytime high of 31º Celsius today and 32º Celsius for tomorrow with overnight lows of 20 degrees. Humidex values are expected to reach 40 today, and 38 on Monday. These forecast conditions have prompted the Middlesex-London Health Unit to issue a Heat Warning that will be in effect for the next two days, until rain expected on Tuesday cools local temperatures.


COVID-19 Assessment Centres to Remain Open for the Civic Holiday Weekend

It will be business as usual at London’s COVID-19 Assessment Centres for the Civic Holiday weekend, with the facilities maintaining regular hours of operation. The Assessment Centre at the Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre, located at 656 Elizabeth Street in London will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., while the Oakridge Arena location at 825 Valetta (which is usually closed Saturday and Sunday) will be open on Holiday Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Extended Heat Warning Issued as Intense Heat Returns for Last Weekend of July

London, ON – The weather that has bathed the Middlesex-London region for much of July makes a return to the area this weekend, leading the Middlesex-London Health Unit to issue another Extended Heat Warning that comes into effect tomorrow. The local Environment Canada forecast calls for daytime highs of 31° Celsius for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and evening lows of 20° Celsius or warmer, meeting the Health Unit’s threshold for an Extended Heat Warning that will remain in effect until Tuesday, July 28th.


Face Coverings in All Indoor Enclosed Public Spaces to be Mandatory Across London And Middlesex…

With the London and Middlesex County region moving in to Stage 3 of Ontario’s recovery, the Medical Officer of Health has issued instructions to all local businesses and organizations to ensure masking and other public health measures are put in place. Dr. Chris Mackie issued the Instruction under Ontario’s Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act today, requiring operators of all enclosed public spaces to implement measures requiring the public to wear face coverings at all times while on their premises.


Environment Canada Forecast Prompts Health Unit to Issue Heat Alert and Extended Heat Warning

London, ON – Hot, hazy and humid weather is expected to move into our region for the rest of the week, as the Environment Canada forecast calls for temperatures that exceed the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for issuing heat-related advisories. With an expected high of 31° Celsius, the Health Unit is issuing a one-day Heat Alert for Wednesday, before the expected daytime high drops below the 30° Celsius mark for Thursday. The break from the heat will be short-lived however, as the MLHU is also issuing a three-day Extended Heat Warning, that will be in effect from Friday, July 17th to Monday, July 20th.

Middlesex-London’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Chris Mackie, has issued two Section 22 Class Orders under the Health Protection and Promotion Act that will require that face coverings be worn at personal care service establishments, and on buses, taxis and ride shares. The Orders will come into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, July 20th, 2020.


Forecast Prompts Health Unit to Extend Heat Warning Through the End of the Week

The current Environment Canada forecast calls for ongoing high temperatures all week, which will meet or exceed the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s criteria, resulting in the continuation of the Extended Heat Warning issued early last week. This Extended Heat Warning will remain in effect from Monday, July 6th until temperatures are predicated to drop below the Health Unit’s threshold, which is expected to happen the morning of Saturday, July 11th.
