SubscribeLocal COVID-19 Assessment Centre to Open Monday at London’s Oakridge Arena
London’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre, operated by the London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care London and the Middlesex-London Health Unit, will open Monday, March 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Oakridge Arena, located at 825 Valetta Street in London. Assessment Centres are out-of-hospital clinics where people can be seen by a healthcare provider for COVID-19 related concerns, rather than have them visit an Emergency Department, Urgent Care Centre or their family doctor’s office. Middlesex-London EMS, the Thames Valley Family Health Team and Middlesex Hospital Alliance were also involved in the planning process.
Health Unit Announces Second Case of COVID-19 in the Middlesex-London Region

Local Mumps Cases Prompt Health Unit to Remind Londoners to Get Immunized
The Middlesex-London Health Unit was notified on Tuesday this week that mumps may be making the rounds of downtown establishments. The Health Unit learned of two cases of mumps among people who visit bars in London’s core. While the two cases are connected, it is unclear whether more people may have been infected. Public health officials are advising those who attend bars downtown to monitor themselves for the signs and symptoms of mumps, which include fever and swelling of the jaw or cheeks. Anyone who develops symptoms should contact their healthcare provider for follow up.

Get Tested Western! Returns Tomorrow to Highlight the Importance of STI Testing
The local rates of sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia and gonorrhea are cause for concern, particularly among those between the ages of 15 and 24. For several years the rates in London and Middlesex County have been among the highest in the province. While the idea of getting tested for an STI may cause concern or anxiety for some, the reality is that screening is quick and very simple. That’s why the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) and the University Students’ Council (USC) at Western University are teaming up for the sixth edition of Get Tested Western! tomorrow at the University Community Centre.

Health Unit Reminding Community to Bundle up as Winter Blast Approaches
While winter has been mostly mild so far, a blast of frigid weather will move into the London and Middlesex County area over the course of today. While the Environment Canada forecast is calling for temperatures that approach the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for a Cold Weather Alert, they are not sufficient to trigger a Cold Weather Alert. A snow squall warning is currently in effect and temperatures are expected to fall throughout the day to a low of -9° Celsius with a wind chill near minus 19; the mercury will continue to drop overnight to a low of -13° Celsius.
