Health Unit Completes Move To Citi Plaza On Time In Spite Of Pandemic

The Middlesex-London Health Unit will reach a significant milestone when the Board of Health meets this Thursday evening. After a process that began in 2015, the Board will consider a recommendation to disband its Relocation Advisory Committee, marking the final step in the Health Unit’s move to its new home at downtown London’s Citi Plaza.


Physical Distancing Critical During Passover And the Easter Weekend

London, ON – With the start of Passover and the Easter weekend upon us, many people across the region may be planning to celebrate these holidays with their families and friends. However, given the increased number of local COVID-19 cases, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is reminding all residents to maintain physical distancing measures over the coming days to limit the spread of COVID-19.


Updated Hours of Operation For Oakridge Arena Assessment Centre

The Oakridge Arena COVID-19 Assessment Centre’s hours of operation are changing this week. The Assessment Centre will no longer be open weekends but will continue to offer assessment services Monday to Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The COVID-19 Assessment Centre at Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre (CHOCC), located at 656 Elizabeth Street in London, will remain open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.


Health Unit Reports Highest Number of New Cases in Local Fight Against COVID-19

London, ON – The Middlesex-London Health Unit reported today that it had received confirmation of 15 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 52. The Health Unit also advised that two people known to have the virus have died, increasing the number of local COVID-19 deaths to three. The new cases include two people with a recent history of travel, two people who are close contacts of previously reported COVID-19 cases and 11 people whose source of infection is still under investigation. The number of new cases announced today comes as laboratories have been able to clear what had been a backlog of tests that had been pending. The Health Unit indicated that the deaths were those of a woman in her 90s and a woman in her 80s.


The Health Unit has Moved to Citi Plaza

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has moved to Citi Plaza! The Health Unit’s main office is now located at 355 Wellington St., London, ON (inside Citi Plaza) and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Physical Distancing is Key in COVID-19 Fight as Six New Local Cases Reported

The Middlesex-London Health Unit announced six new cases of the novel coronavirus today, bringing the local number of those infected to 31. Among the new cases are four people who have travelled recently, a close contact of another case and an individual who lives in a long-term care home. Health Unit staff have been communicating with all six individuals and are following up with their close contacts as part of the on-going case investigations.


Health Unit Receives Notification of Middlesex-London Region’s First Fatality

The Middlesex-London Health Unit was notified this morning of a death related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Health Unit learned that a man in his 70s who had returned from a trip to Portugal earlier this month passed away last night. The Health Unit had been following up with this individual since shortly after he was admitted to care at London Health Sciences Centre and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 19th.


Health Unit Reminds March Break Travellers to Self-Isolate

With the end of March Break, many local families may be returning home after vacationing abroad. Given the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in London and Middlesex County, as well as around the world, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is urging ALL travellers returning to Canada to self-isolate for 14 days. Physical distancing measures, including self-isolation are critical to limit the spread of COVID-19.


Health Unit Calls on Residents to Create Physical Distance While Maintaining Social Connection

London, ON – The Ontario Public Health Laboratory has notified the Middlesex-London Health Unit of six new cases of COVID-19 in the region, bringing the total number of local cases to 11. Health Unit staff have followed up with those who have tested positive for the illness; all of them are currently self-isolating. Staff will also be following up with each individual’s close contacts, all of whom will be advised to remain in self-isolation for the next 14 days. The investigations so far indicate that not all cases are directly associated with recent travel to an area affected by COVID-19.


Fifth Case of COVID-19 Reported in the Middlesex-London Region

The fifth local case of COVID-19 has been reported to the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU). The Ontario Public Health Laboratory advised Health Unit staff that a woman in her 60s had tested positive for the illness. While this individual has not travelled recently to an area affected by COVID-19, nor does she have any contact with another confirmed or probable case, public health staff continue to investigate for a possible source. The individual is currently self-isolating. MLHU staff members have also communicated with the woman’s close contacts, who have also been advised to remain in self-isolation at home for the next 14 days.
