Summer Heat in Store for the Weekend as Health Unit Issues Heat Warning
Bright sunshine and hot temperatures are on the way for Saturday and Sunday, prompting the Middlesex-London Health Unit to issue the first Heat Warning of the season. The current Environment Canada forecast calls for highs of 31º Celsius for the next two days with temperatures falling to 20º Celsius Saturday night, before rain moves into the region on Monday, bringing slightly cooler weather. The Heat Warning will come into effect on Saturday, June 5th and will be active until temperatures are expected to drop overnight into Monday, June 7th.
Second Dose Rebookings to Open Monday for Seniors 80 and Older; Next Thursday for Those Over 70
Starting at 8:00 a.m. Monday, June 7th, London and Middlesex County seniors 80 years of age and older who have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, will have the option to re-book their second appointment to an earlier date. Those 70 years of age and older will be able to do the same starting on Thursday, June 10th. The Middlesex-London Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination appointment booking system has been updated to allow those in these groups to book or re-schedule a second dose appointment at a shorter interval than 112 days, based on appointment availability.
MLHU Emphasizes Public Health Guidance as Stay-at-Home Order Lifts Wednesday
The Middlesex-London Health Unit is emphasizing the importance of following public health guidance as Ontario’s Stay-at-Home Order is lifted today. Though stay-at-home restrictions are no longer in place, limits on gatherings, services and business remain in effect. This includes avoiding indoor gatherings with anyone who isn’t part of your household. The Health Unit is also underscoring the importance of continuing to follow the public health guidance that has been in place for months, including wearing a mask, maintaining two metres’ distance from others and washing your hands frequently.
MLHU Prioritizes First Dose Appointments for Individuals Aged 12 and Older
Following the Province’s announcement Friday afternoon about an accelerated rollout plan for second dose COVID-19 vaccine appointments, the Middlesex-London Health Unit will begin to offer those over the age of 80 the opportunity to re-book their second dose appointments starting Monday, June 7th, or sooner. The Health Unit will provide an update at its regularly scheduled virtual media briefing on Thursday, June 3rd.
MLHU Preparing to Accelerate Second-Dose Appointments to Individuals 80+ As Soon As Possible
The Government of Ontario announced the accelerated rollout of second dose COVID-19 vaccine appointments in the province this afternoon. Among the updates the Government provided was the expansion of accelerated second-dose vaccination appointment bookings to adults 80 years of age and older, starting early next week. In response to the announcement, the Middlesex-London Health Unit is currently determining a plan of action that responds to the Province’s accelerated rollout of second dose appointments and will provide an update when further information is available about when those over the age of 80 will be able to re-book second dose appointments.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit and Southwestern Public Health will be hosting Virtual Town Hall meetings for parents and guardians of children between the ages of 12 and 17, who are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Hot Weather Descends on London and Middlesex County Prompting Season's Second Heat Alert
The hot summer-like weather is back to start the shortened week, with potentially record-setting high temperatures in store for today. The current Environment Canada forecast is calling for a high of 32º Celsius, before cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain come tomorrow. Today’s expected daytime high exceeds the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s threshold for issuing a Heat Alert, generating a reminder to make plans for outdoor activities, including dressing lightly, taking breaks from working outside and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.
