Health Unit Works with LHSC as COVID-19 Outbreak Expands at University Hospital

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is working closely with officials at London Health Sciences Centre’s University Hospital to manage a significant outbreak among staff and patients. An outbreak on the fourth floor that was declared on November 10th has been expanded today to include all medical floors at the hospital.


Province Approves Permanent Site for Consumption and Treatment Service

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) and Regional HIV/AIDS Connection (RHAC) have been notified that the Government of Ontario has approved the application for a permanent Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS) in London, at 446 York Street. The announcement includes funding to pay for renovations at the site and to undertake operations once the facility is ready to receive patients. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2021.


COVID-19 Outbreak Declared at a Second Western University Residence

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a Western University student residence, the second outbreak to be declared on campus this week. The Health Unit received a report earlier today of a third positive COVID-19 test for a person at this residence. The three individuals have been contacted by the Health Unit and are currently self-isolating with the support of Western’s administration. The Health Unit is also following up with all close contacts of the cases to ensure they get tested and are quarantining.


Health Unit Revokes Rules Now Covered by Provincial Framework, Continues Guidance for Sport and…

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has reviewed existing local orders and other guidance in the context of the Government of Ontario’s new COVID-19 Response Framework: Keeping Ontario Safe and Open. With the area served by the Health Unit now at the Yellow/Protect level of the new Framework, the guidance from four Section 22 Class Orders and one Instruction are adequately addressed, and are no longer necessary.


Health Unit Declares Outbreak in Western Student Residence

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in a residence at Western University. At this time, eight individuals within the same residence have tested positive for the virus. These individuals have been contacted by the Health Unit and are currently self-isolating with the support of Western’s administration. The Health Unit is also following up with all close contacts of the cases to ensure that they are tested and quarantined.


Health Unit Declares COVID-19 Outbreak at Delilah’s After Staff Test Positive

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Delilah’s, formerly the Barking Frog, located at 209 John Street in London, after three members of the restaurant staff tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Unit was notified of the cases November 12th, 13th and 14th and established the connection to the restaurant this afternoon.


Remembrance Day 2020

This year, and every year, it’s important that we observe Remembrance Day, honouring our veterans, those who have fallen in service to our country, and those who actively are serving. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the risks posed by events and gatherings, and the vulnerability of our elderly veterans to the disease, the Health Unit is recommending that Remembrance Day Ceremonies and events be held virtually or broadcasted for the general public.


MLHU Public Statement re: Privacy Investigation

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has concluded its investigation into whether Personal Information (PI) or Personal Health Information (PHI) was disclosed when electronic devices and paper documents were inadvertently left at the Health Unit’s former office location at 50 King Street in March of 2020.


Updated Section 22 Order for Personal Care Settings Comes into Effect Thursday

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has updated the requirements of the Section 22 Class Order for personal care service establishments in London and Middlesex County. The updated Order, issued under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, will come into effect Thursday, October 29th, at 12:01 a.m., to allow operators to prepare and obtain the necessary equipment required under the Order.


Health Unit to Issue New Section 22 Orders for Restaurants, Personal Care Settings and Fitness…

New measures aimed at reducing the potential spread of COVID-19 in restaurant and banquet halls, personal care service establishments, and indoor fitness facilities in London and Middlesex County, will come into effect this Saturday at 12:01 a.m. Middlesex-London’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Chris Mackie, announced that the three Section 22 Class Orders issued under the Health Protection and Promotion Act will require additional public health measures to be taken at these businesses and facilities to fight the pandemic.
