The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre, after four members of the staff there tested positive for the novel coronavirus; no inmates have tested positive at this time. The Health Unit was notified of an initial case among EMDC staff on January 14th; the three additional cases were reported on January 16th. The declaration of the outbreak is an acknowledgement that virus transmission has occurred at the facility, and that there will be increased adherence to public health measures and a thorough cleaning of the facility. It is important to note that there has been no risk of exposure for visitors to EMDC.
Health Unit Declares Outbreak at Real Canadian Superstore (Oakridge)
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Real Canadian Superstore located at 1205 Oxford Street West in London. The Health Unit has been advised of 10 recent positive COVID-19 test results for employees at the store; the first on December 28, 2020, with four additional cases linked to the store on January 15. Store management has advised that thorough cleaning and sanitization have taken place.
Health Unit Confirms First Case of COVID-19 UK Variant in the Middlesex-London Region
The Middlesex-London Health Unit was notified today by the Public Health Ontario Laboratory that a local individual previously diagnosed with COVID-19 has been identified as the region’s first person to be confirmed to have the U.K. variant of COVID-19. The person, whose illness has resolved, is in their 80s and has no history of travel outside of Canada. The Health Unit has not been advised of any other laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 U.K. variant cases in the London or Middlesex County.
Health Unit Declares Outbreak at Mission Services of London
The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Mission Services of London – Men’s Mission, a local shelter located at 459 York Street in London. The Health Unit has so far received reports of nine people, including five staff members, and four clients who have tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Unit was notified of an initial case, who is a resident of the facility, on December 17th and made the decision to declare an outbreak after being notified of five additional cases associated with the Men’s Mission within the last week.
Outbreak Declared as More Than 40 Cases Reported at Apartment Complex
The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Maple Ridge on the Parc, an apartment complex located at 112 and 114 Arbor Glen Crescent in London. The Health Unit has so far received reports of 46 people, including three staff members, testing positive for the novel coronavirus. The Health Unit was notified of an initial case who lives in one of the buildings on December 11th and made the decision to declare an outbreak after being notified of 19 cases linked to Maple Ridge on the Parc within the last week.
LHSC and MLHU Set to Roll Out Local COVID-19 Vaccination Program
Health-care workers in local long-term care and retirement homes along with selected hospital staff will be the first in the region to receive the new COVID-19 vaccine when doses begin to arrive over the next few days. London Health Sciences Centre and Middlesex-London Health Unit will partner on the historic vaccination program that will see the administration of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine get underway as soon as possible. The Ministry of Health announced today a total of 17 new sites across the province will soon begin providing the vaccine.

Health Unit Declares COVID-19 Outbreak at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School
The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COIVD-19 outbreak at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School. The Health Unit has concluded that the virus had been spread between close contacts at the school who have both tested positive, after other possible sources of transmission between two individuals had been ruled out. The outbreak is the fifth to be reported at a London school this week; outbreaks were declared on Wednesday, December 9th at Sir Arthur Currie Public School, Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School, Westminster Secondary School and Ashley Oaks Public School.
Health Unit Declares Outbreaks at Four London Schools
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) was notified late yesterday of six additional COVID-19 cases at London schools where previous cases had been reported. Sir Arthur Currie Public School and Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School each had an additional member of their community test positive; while two additional members of the Westminster Secondary School and the Ashley Oaks Public School community tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Unit has concluded that the additional cases are likely linked to previous COVID-19 cases reported at each of the schools, and is declaring the four outbreaks in order to help limit any additional spread of the virus within these school communities.
Health Unit Declares Outbreak After Staff Members at the Shish Shawarma Test Positive for COVID-19
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at The Shish Shawarma & Grill restaurant located at 1401 Ernest Avenue in London, after six employees tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Unit was notified of an initial case at the restaurant on Tuesday, December 1st and made the decision to close the business the following day, after being notified of a third case among staff members. Reports of positive tests for three additional employees were received by the Health Unit yesterday. Investigators are still determining whether any of the six staff members worked while they were infectious.
