Second dose appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine are being rescheduled for the majority of those who received their first dose of vaccine at the Western Fair District Agriplex and at the Mount Brydges COVID-19 vaccination clinic. Second dose appointments that had been scheduled to happen as soon as tomorrow, will now take place up to 112 days from the date the first dose was administered.
Health Unit Reports COVID-19 Variant of Concern at Saunders Secondary School
The Middlesex-London Health Unit was notified yesterday that the positive COVID-19 test of a student at Saunders Secondary School has now screened positive for a Variant of Concern. The Saunders Secondary School community is being notified about the positive screen for a Variant of Concern today and public health staff will follow up with close contacts of the case who were identified previously to ensure they have sought testing and have maintained their quarantine. The Health Unit has indicated that no additional classes will be cancelled and the school will remain open.
Province-wide Salesforce Outage to Prevent MLHU COVID-19 Dashboard Update Today
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is advising its COVID-19 information dashboard will not be updated at 12:00 noon today. Because of a provincewide outage of the provincial case and contact management system (Salesforce), Health Unit staff will be unable to extract case and contact management data in order generate the local data that is usually included as part of the Health Unit’s daily COVID-19 dashboard update.
Health Unit to Release 6,900 Additional Vaccine Appointments Tomorrow Morning
The Middlesex-London Health Unit will make 6,900 new vaccination appointments available when the telephone and online booking systems open at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. The new appointments will be available to adults who are 80 years of age and older, Indigenous adults 55 years of age and older, and very high priority healthcare workers. Demand for the appointments has been high since the Health Unit announced it would begin vaccinating these groups starting this Saturday. Today’s announcement moves up the timeline when members of these groups can get the COVID-19 vaccine by two days, making appointments available as early as tomorrow and significantly increasing the number of opportunities they will have to do so. A number of these additional vaccine appointment times will be available exclusively to those booking by telephone.
High Demand Fills COVID-19 Vaccination Appointments for Seniors, Bookings to Resume Tomorrow Morning
More than 5,000 COVID-19 vaccination appointments for seniors who are 80 years of age and older were filled within two hours of the opening of online and telephone bookings this morning. Vaccination appointments for those who are 80 years of age and older will begin on Saturday, March 6th at both the Western Fair District Agriplex and the Caradoc Community Centre in Mount Brydges.
Health Unit Declares Outbreak at Western University Student Residence
The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Western University’s Essex Hall residence. The Health Unit advised Western administration this afternoon that several students living on two floors of the building have tested positive for COVID-19 since Saturday. Public health officials also indicated that there is no evidence to suggest any of the individuals who tested positive had attended a social gathering of any kind.
First Dose Vaccinations Expanded to Additional Priority Groups
With increased vaccine supply in the region, and guidance from the Province, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU), Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) and Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) will expand eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination to additional priority groups identified in the first Phase of Ontario’s Vaccination Plan.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) announced today the two London sites that will house the third and fourth COVID-19 vaccinations clinics in the region.
Overnight Lows and Windchill Prompt Health Unit to Issue Cold Weather Alert
Cold temperatures and bitter winter winds will accompany the flurries and snow squalls that are expected for the London and Middlesex County region today. Forecast overnight temperatures and windchill values for the next two days are expected to reach the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s thresholds for issuing a Cold Weather Alert. The current Environment Canada forecast calls for windchill values as low as -18 accompanied by plenty of flurries and gusting winds. Overnight, we expect a low of -19C with windchill values as low as -23. While daytime temperatures on Wednesday are expected to reach a high of -6C, the Cold Weather Alert will remain in place, as windchill values are predicted to be as low as -26 in the morning. The Alert is expected to remain in place until Wednesday afternoon, when the Environment Canada forecast calls for temperatures of -6C and windchill values of -8.
First Dose Vaccinations to Resume for Additional Priority Groups
Since it reopened last week, the COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Western Fair District Agriplex had been delivering vaccine to those who had already received their first dose, but whose second dose appointments had been rescheduled. With the renewed delivery of vaccine and guidance from the Province, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU), Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) and Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) will be expanding vaccination to additional priority groups identified in the first Phase of Ontario’s Vaccination Plan, who have yet to receive a first dose.
