Still Time to Register for the Generation Squeeze Community Forum
More than ever, Canadians in their 20s, 30s and 40s and the families they are raising are facing lower earnings, higher costs, greater demands on their time and a deteriorating environment. The challenges that result from this reality have led to Generation Squeeze, the effort to create a national lobby aimed at addressing the issue. The goal is to give Canadians in their 40s and younger more influence in shaping the broad public policies that govern their lives and the futures of their families. Through Generation Squeeze, it is hoped that government investment in programs and services aimed at younger Canadians would increase.
September 9th is International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day
International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day, or FASD Day as it is known, is an internationally recognized event carried out to raise awareness about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The first FASD Day was observed on September 9, 1999.

Health Unit Reports Summer's First Case of West Nile Virus
Late this afternoon, the Middlesex-London Health Unit received a report from Public Health Ontario’s Toronto Laboratory of a probable human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) infection. The results of further tests are pending before the case can be confirmed as West Nile Virus. If confirmed, this would be the first local human case of West Nile Virus in 2015.
Mosquitoes Found in South London Trap Test Positive for West Nile Virus
Analysis of mosquitoes found in a trap located in the Westminster Ponds area has found the insects were carrying West Nile Virus. The Middlesex-London Health Unit’s contractor, Québec-based Groupe de Gestion Environnement (GDG Environmental), advised Health Unit staff of the positive test today. Although the Health Unit has already reported the presence of West Nile Virus in two dead crows this summer, the mosquitoes from the trap near Wellington and Southdale Roads are the first to test positive for the disease.
Health Unit Invites Strathroy Area Families to a Smoke-Free Movie Night
The Middlesex-London Health Unit and the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc are encouraging families to come to their free Smoke-Free Movie Night in Strathroy this Friday night. It’s the fourth year the Health Unit has hosted this great family event and the first time it’s coming to Strathroy-Caradoc. The free outdoor screening of DreamWorks’ 2015 hit animated film Home will be held at the Fair Grounds Recreation Complex. Games, activities, face painting and more get underway at 5:00 p.m., while the film begins at dusk.
